Windows 7 RC available in just 4 days!

In just a couple of days the TechNET and MSDN Subscribers can download the official RC release of Windows 7. The ‘rest of the world’ has to wait another week and can download the RC from May 5th.

Just click here to download Windows 7 RC (available from April 30th)

Update : Windows 7 RC will be available for download at May 5th

Update : Earlier today (or should I say yesterday?) Microsoft published a page (see screenshot below) on their Partner page where was stated that the Windows RC was available for download if you are a TechNET or MSDN Subscriber. To bad this was another mistake of someone who published a page too early. The public date release date of May 5, 2009 is still the right one!

So we just have to wait a couple of weeks before we can download the official RC release of Winodws 7….as for now the download is only available to certain Microsoft Partners.

Windows 7 RC will expire on June 1, 2010

Too bad you can’t download Windows 7 RC right away, but check out these facts about the upcoming Release Canditate :

  • You don’t need to rush to get Windows 7 RC. The RC release will be available at least through June 2009 and we’re not limiting the number of product keys, so you have plenty of time.
  • Watch the calendar. Windows 7 RC will expire on June 1, 2010. So if you install the RC release you’ll either need to upgrade to the final version of Windows 7 before that date, or install a prior version of Windows. (For more about installing Windows, see installation instructions.
  • Protect your PC and data . Be sure to back up your data and please don’t test Windows 7 RC on your primary home or business PC.
  • Technical details/updates: before installing the RC please read the Release Notes, and Things to Know for important information about the release.
  • Keep up with the news. You can keep up with general technical information and news by following the Springboard Series blog or Windows team blog. Want technical guidance, tips, and tools? Visit the Springboard Series on TechNet.
And, you can get non-technical news, tips, and offers on the Springboard Series on TechNet
  • Keep your PC updated: Be sure turn on automatic updates in Windows Update in case we publish updates for the RC.
  • Microsoft Partners: Learn more about Windows 7on the Microsoft Partner Portal.

A couple of hours left to start the download…

Windows 7 Logo

The 10th of February…..besides it’s my birthday :-), it’s the day that Microsoft pulls the Windows 7 Public Beta offline! So if you didn’t downloaded the ISO already….DO IT NOW!

Or at least start the download in the next few hours, you have till February 12th to finalize the download. Don’t forget to get your (legal) key (you can even get your key after February 12th)!

Check out the schedule below to see when what happens:
Source : WindowsTeamBlog

  • Starting January 27th, the Windows 7 page will be updated with a warning that time is running out on downloading the Windows 7 Beta and that we will be limiting downloads shortly. People will be encouraged to register and start the download of the Windows 7 Beta sooner rather than later.
  • February 10th, new downloads of the Windows 7 Beta will no longer be available. People who have already started their Windows 7 Beta download and have not yet finished will still be able to finish their download and are encouraged to do so.
  • February 12th, people will no longer be able to complete their download of the Windows 7 Beta. Anyone who hasn’t finished downloading the Windows 7 Beta will be unable to do so.

Product keys for the Windows 7 Beta will continue to be available. So if you have the Windows 7 Beta but didn’t get a product key you will be able to do so even after February 12th.

Update : Windows 7 Public Beta Download Page Available!

Windows 7 Logo

The page is already available, but the downloads don’t seem to work yet. Visit my Windows 7 Download Page for all the Windows 7 Download links (TechNet, MSDN, Public Beta!)

You have to be quick because it’s only available to the first 2.5 Million people!

Update (21:30 CET / 12:30 PST) : On my favorite Dutch forum some messages appeared with the reason why the download isn’t available yet. Mary-Jo (ZDNet) blogged about it :

“Due to very heavy traffic we’re seeing as a result of interest in the Windows 7 Beta, we are adding some additional infrastructure support to properties before we post the public Beta today. We want to ensure customers have the best possible experience when downloading the Beta, and will be in touch once the Beta goes live.”

So no key at 12:00 PM PST, but you can download the ISO images. The links are located at the bottom of the Windows 7 Download Page.
