System Center 2012 ExamsSystem Center 2012 Examens

Earlier today I received an invite for the System Center Configuration Manager 2012 beta exam (71-243). Too bad that mail is not yet made public, but within a few days you all can register for the beta exam which can be attended from February 1st till February 23rd.

While I was searching the web today for some new information about the new System Center suite I ran into something nice. With the new System Center 2012 suite also a new certification will become available. The exact name has to be determined at the moment, but it will probably be something like this : MCITP Private Cloud.

The receive this certification you have to pass the following exams:

If you already achieved the MCITP Server Administrator or MCITP Enterprise Administrator, then you already passed these exams. To achieve the Private Cloud Certification you only have to pass the next two exams:

I’ve you are able to attend the Microsoft Management Summit (MMS) 2012 in Las Vegas, you probably can attend the System Center 2012 Beta Exams which will be available at the Summit in April 2012. Let’s hope the beta exams will also be available to everybody, who isn’t able to attend the event, via the ‘normal’ channels!

As soon any news will be available, I’ll update my blogpost!systemcenter

Become a MCTS : System Center Operations Manager 2007

Today Trika posted some info about a new MCTS credential :

Exam 70-400: Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007, Configuring is live as of yesterday, Monday 21 January*, 2008. What this means is that you can now earn a certification called MCTS: System Center Operations Manager 2007, Configuration. A certification for System Center Configuration Manager will be available in March.

Just now, in that last sentence, I was going too fast and I accidentally typed “scertification” and it occurred to me that it could be an efficient way to indicate a certification held by a lady. For example, I am PowerPoint 2007 scertified. It’s possible (or likely), that I’ve just annoyed someone, so I’ll move on.

System Center Operations Manager and System Center Configuration Manager are two key technologies under the System Center umbrella, and, from what I understand, the two that are becoming more and more of an operations staple for large and enterprise organizations with a Windows Server infrastructure.

Consider earning MCTS: System Center Operations Manager 2007, Configuration now (or MCTS: System Center Configuration Manager in a few months) if :

  • you are in an operations role or would like to move that way in the future
  • you have an MCP cert for a previous version of Systems Management Server (along the lines of exam 70-089 or exam 70-086)
  • your organization is looking at System Center Operations Manager (and/or Configuration Manager) for their Windows Server environment
  • There is no pre-requisite for these certification, but you’ll need to be extremely comfortable with the Windows Server 2000 or 2003 platform to do well on the exams (400/401), which are reportedly pretty challenging, and good.

Do not consider these certifications if you are just getting started with the Windows infrastructure. If that is you… consider starting your studies and path to an MCTS on Server 2008, when available, or look for a Windows Server 2003 exam that reflects your current/developing skills base.

How to get ready for 70-400

In related news:

  • I get most of my information from the smart people who plan and make our exams. In this case, my friend Jim. If you have a question, let me know, and I can ask him.
  • If you took the 71-400 beta, you should have your results now (as of 21 January). If not, contact Prometric (that is where your results initiate). I hope you passed.
  • Exam 70-401:TS: Microsoft® System Center Configuration Manager, Configuring will be live on March 6, according to the info I have. If you want to start preparing for that one, visit the prep guide:
  • If you took 71-401, don’t freak out about your beta results yet, they won’t be available until closer to the live date, most likely

* Yesterday, Monday, 21 January was 3 days before my birthday**

**Not to put too fine a point on it, but my birthday is on Thursday, 24 January

ps. it’s Trika’s birthday tomorrow (Thursday, January 24th)….so send her a Happy Birthday-card at

SCOM 2007 : Live Maps for Operations Manager 2007

Maarten of the blog techlog wrote the following interesting story about SCOM 2007 :

Along with my good friend Stefan Stranger, I’ve been testing Live Maps for Operations Manager 2007 from Savision for some time now and I must say it’s a killer app for OpsMgr 2007. With Live Maps you can create your own fully configurable Maps and place OpsMgr objects on those Maps. Turn your existing Visio diagram into a live monitoring map. How cool is that? And finally alerts and state view together in one view:

    OpsMgrConsoleWithDiagramAnd OpsMgrConsoleWithFlowchart

Create Live Maps from any imaginable background
Use existing diagrams, floor plans and run books to quickly add relevant maps to OpsMgr 2007.
    Over 300 geographical maps included
Live maps comes with a complete set of geographical maps, including a world map, continents, countries and US states.

    Simple drag and drop interface
A drag and drop based authoring console ensures easy map creation and change.

    OpsMgrConsoleWithRack OpsMgrConsoleWithWorldMap

Full access to all OpsMgr functionality
Run object-sensitive management pack tasks from any map. Launch Health Explorer from any problematic object. Activate maintenance mode for a complete region in a single-click.
    Adheres to OpsMgr build-in security
Use OpsMgr’s build-in security model to grant and deny access to maps. Use OpsMgr’s build-in scoping functionality to only show relevant objects and alerts.
    Enhanced Alert Awareness
Objects blink when Operator attention is required. Live maps provides a Microsoft Outlook style alert view; highlighting new alerts as they come in. Embed critical escalation and contact information.

Live Maps will be launched at TechEd IT Forum 2007. Interested? Check out their demo or visit their stand at IT Forum Barcelona.
